CASTINE, Maine — Western New England College chewed up Maine Maritime Academy on its way to 769 yards of total offense on Saturday afternoon while breezing to an 80-14 New England Football Conference football victory at Ritchie Field.
Quarterback Tyler Ward completed 15 of 21 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns, while T. N’Dabian (2 carries, 157 yards, 2 TDs) and Nick Connell (7 carries, 113 yards, TD) each went over 100 yards rushing for the 3-0 Bears.
Tucker Schumitz (5 receptions, 85 yards, TD) and Andrew Walz (4-75-1) headed the receiver corps for Western New England, which finished with 385 yards passing and 384 via the run.
Maine Maritime Academy (1-2) took an early 8-0 lead after Jacob Doolan’s 38-yard touchdown run, but wound up committing six turnovers (3 fumbles, 3 interceptions) despite holding a 10-minute advantage in time of possession.
The visitors, who led 38-16 at halftime and tacked on 28 points in the fourth quarter, turned in several big plays. They including scoring runs of 63 and 94 yards by N’Dabian and his 61-yard TD reception from Ward.
Connell also had an 81-yard jaunt for a score.
The Mariners finished with 372 yards of offense, led by Doolan (116 yards on 12 carries). Quarterback Michael Fahey netted only 52 yards on 20 attempts.
John Doyon paced the MMA defense with 11 tackles and a forced fumble, while Johnny Weymouth and Thomas Kinton added eight and seven tackles, respectively.
Dean Soucie was in on 14 tackles for WNE.
Middlebury 27, Colby 7
At Waterville, quarterback Matt Milano threw for 290 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help the Panthers earn a New England Small College Athletic Conference victory over Colby College on Seaverns Field at Harold Alfond Stadium.
Milano was 22-for-33 and had no interceptions on a day when Middlebury (1-1) had 458 yards of total offense.
The Panthers scored on two long drives in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. The first drive went 91 yards on 13 plays and ended with a 1-yard scoring run by Drew Jacobs .
Middlebury stopped Colby (0-2 overall) on downs at the M-37 on the next drive. The Panthers drove 63 yards in eight plays and made it 14-0 on Milano’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Grant Luna.
The Mules got their only touchdown of the game on the next drive. Carl Lipani scored from 2 yards out.
The Panthers scored later in the half after Milano’s 69-yard pass to Trevor Wheeler set up his 5-yard TD toss to Brett Harasimowicz.
Gabe Harrington threw for 152 yards on 25 completions for Colby and Lipani rushed for 46 yards and had five catches, as did Luke Duncklee and Nick Joseph.
