CARIBOU, Maine — Much of Maine woke up Friday morning to dark gray skies and rain pounding down, and the National Weather Service has issued several alerts.
A flash flood watch will remain in effect for central and northern portions of the state throughout the day, according to the weather service’s Caribou office.
Rain is expected to be heavy at times throughout Friday morning with an inch to an inch-and-a-half expected on top of 1-2 inches that have already fallen in most spots, according to the weather service.
The flash flood watches are in effect until noon Friday and are listed for Piscataquis and southern Penobscot counties.
The weather service said main concerns include urban and small stream flooding and ponding on roadways, but issues with larger rivers are not expected.
