Craft fair, luncheon

ALTON — The Alton United Methodist Church will hold a craft fair and haddock chowder luncheon 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Alton United Methodist Church, 3494 Bennoch Road.

The fair will have available for purchase many crafts, a white elephant table, candies, baked goods and baked beans.

Pumpkins in the Park

BANGOR — UCP of Maine’s Pumpkins in the Park will be held noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Cross Insurance Center ballroom.

This community Halloween party will feature bounce houses, trick-or-treating, face painting, glowing jack-o-lanterns and much more.

Proceeds will benefit UCP of Maine to support local children and adults living with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Admission is $3, $10 family, free to children under 3.

Craft, Antique Fair

BANGOR — The Zonta Club of Bangor will hold its 36th annual Marketplace Craft and Antique Fair, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov 8-9, at the Brewer Auditorium. The event will feature more than 70 vendors for Christmas shopping and lunch of homemade chowder and other treats at the Zonta Cafe. A silent auction and food to go — sweets and take home meals — will be available. Door prizes will be awarded and a 50-50 raffle will be conducted.

Zonta Club of Bangor, is part of an International organization working to improve the status of women worldwide. It provides support to local organizations such as the Girl Scouts, Womancare-Spruce Run-Rape Response and Sarah’s House of Maine.

Children’s party

BANGOR — Glad Tidings Church, 1033 Broadway, will host its annual Hallelujah! Party for children 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the church. The event will include a time of praise, games, prizes, food and lots of candy. Organizers request that costumes be positive in nature — nothing dark, evil or scary.

Christian concert

BANGOR — A Harvest Christian Concert to benefit Legacy Incorporated will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Rock Church, 1195 Ohio St. Legacy is a nonprofit organization that provides tuition assistance to families wishing to send their children to Christian schools.

Featured artists at the concert will include Rise and Run, Founded Trio and Alison Turtlott.

Admission is free.

Parade entries needed

BANGOR — The Rotary Club of Bangor will host its annual Festival of Lights Parade at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, along Main Street in downtown Bangor.

Entities wishing to participate in the parade may download an application at bangorrotary.org.  Completed applications are requested by 5 p.m. Nov. 12.

Parade planners said they can accommodate approximately 70 units, including marching bands, small and large floats, dancers and other performing groups. Groups may represent traditional scenes celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, New Year’s, Solstice, Kwanzaa or any winter happening. There is no fee to participate.

To help defray the cost of transportation, the Rotary Club will contribute $500 to the first five school or nonprofit marching bands that register and participate in the parade.

The Rotary Club meets at noon Tuesdays at the Wellman Commons in Bangor.

‘Tikkun Olam’ talk

BANGOR — Barbara Kates, Maine community organizer, Wabanaki REACH in support of the Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and a member of Congregation Beth El, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Congregation Beth El, 183 French St. Her topic will be “Tikkun Olam in the Land of the Dawn.”

The Hebrew phrase “Tikkun Olam” literally means “world repair.” It is commonly used to refer to the pursuit of social action and social justice in Judaism.

Kates will present the challenging history that led to the formation of the commission and, from a Jewish perspective, will discuss what community, truth and reconciliation may mean.

Learn to sing

BANGOR — The Mainely Music Chorus, a men’s singing organization belonging to the Barbershop Harmony Society, will offer free singing lessons for the next five weeks. At the end of that that time, participants will have the opportunity to sing with the chorus.

The chorus meets at 7 p.m. Mondays at the Bangor Parks and Recreation Building, 647 Main St. Use the entrance located from the back parking lot.

Rabies clinic

BRADLEY — A rabies vaccination clinic will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Bradley Municipal Building. The cost is $8 per vaccination.

Brewer Auditorium

BREWER — The Brewer Auditorium will be 75 years old in November and the Brewer Parks and Recreation Department is seeking pertinent photographs and news articles about the auditorium that can be displayed during November. Organizers also want to hear about your fondest memories of events that have taken place at the auditorium since its construction in 1939.

The auditorium is considered to be the heart of the community and has served in numerous capacities over the decades. Dances, basketball tournaments, craft shows, concerts featuring national acts, political events, recreation programs and numerous other events have taken place in the building and the recreation department looks forward to putting together a historical perspective for all to enjoy.

Birthday Ball

BREWER — The Greater Bangor Area Detachment 1151 of the Marine Corps League will hold its eighth annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, Jeff’s Catering. The event is open to the public. Tickets will be sold only in advance at $30, $50 couple.

The evening will include a full military ceremony, dinner and dancing. A cash bar also will be available.

Benefit breakfast

BUCKSPORT — The Franklin Street United Methodist Church and the East Bucksport United Methodist Church will host a breakfast buffet 6:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the church, 71 Franklin St. The cost is $8, $4 children, $25 family of four or more.

Halloween story hour

CARMEL — A special Halloween story hour will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct., 25, at Simpson Memorial Library, 8 Plymouth Road. Keith Graves’s new book, “The Monsterator,” will be read along with other fun stories.

Haunted House

EDDINGTON — Eddington Fire Department will host its 11th annual Haunted House 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at 906 Main Road.

The Haunted House is family friendly. The event also will feature face painting, a coloring contest, treats and a hayride.

The Haunted House event will take place rain or shine and the hayride will run weather permitting.

Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help support other community events.

Coastal Public Access Guide

AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Maine Coastal Program announced recently that all three volumes of its Maine Coastal Public Access Guide are available for purchase online. The guidebooks provide descriptions for more than 700 sites along Maine’s 5,300-mile coastline, including geographic coordinates, amenities, facilities, parking and directions. The series is composed of three volumes: Southern Region (South Berwick to Freeport), Midcoast Region (Brunswick to Hampden) and Downeast Region (Bangor to Calais). The cost per guide is $8.
