BANGOR, Maine — Local police are investigating a Monday night altercation in Pickering Square that ended with one man going to the hospital.

Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said one man had a cut on his forehead and was treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center and released.

No names were disclosed as no one has been charged, Cotton said.

Police were called to the area shortly before 10 p.m. Monday and dealt with two groups of men who told different stories, the sergeant said.

Cotton said it’s unclear who started the altercation. The man who was cut apparently had a knife thrown at him which struck him in the head, the sergeant said.

“It’s unclear who struck who first, so that’s what we’re investigating,” Cotton said.

Bangor police Detectives Tim Shaw and Gary Decker are investigating the case.
