BANGOR, Maine — A jury Tuesday found a Penobscot man guilty of one count of possession of child pornography after 1½-day trial in U.S. District Court.

Kevin Lee Ross, 52, will be held without bail pending sentencing.

A sentencing date has not been set.

Before the verdict, he was free on $5,000 unsecured bail.

The trial began Monday. The verdict was announced before noon Tuesday, according to information posted on the court’s electronic case filing system.

Ross was indicted on Sept. 18 by a federal grand jury for possessing child pornography between July 2010 and July 2011. He pleaded not guilty and was released a week later.

The investigation into Ross began in July 2011 when a U.S. postal inspector monitoring a peer-to-peer file sharing network found files containing known child pornography being shared, according to the trial brief filed by the federal prosecutor. The IP address was traced to the home Ross shared with his mother in Penobscot.

When officers arrived at the residence, they found a video of child pornography playing on one of Ross’ computer, the brief said. Forensic examiners found 1,000 of images of child pornography on Ross’ two computers and an external hard drive.

Ross faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
