WINSLOW, Maine — A teenage boy is facing an aggravated assault charge after another teen was allegedly stabbed at Halifax Park on Monday night, police said Tuesday.
Officers were dispatched to the area shortly before 9 p.m., according to Winslow Police Chief Shawn O’Leary, and subsequently encountered several individuals, including the 17-year-old male victim.
The boy had been stabbed in the chest, and was transported by ambulance to Thayer Hospital and later to MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta due to the severity of his injuries, O’Leary said.
After consulting witnesses, the suspect, another 17-year-old boy who had fled the scene before police arrived, was identified, O’Leary said.
The names of the individuals were not disclosed because they are juveniles.
Waterville police were called in to assist in searching for the suspect, along with a state police canine unit, O’Leary said. The juvenile was found at a Halifax Street address shortly before 10 p.m., and was taken into custody without incident.
The teen was transported to the Charleston Juvenile Correctional Facility and charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony, O’Leary said. A probation hold also was placed on the teen.
The victim underwent surgery on Monday night and is in stable condition, O’Leary said. The case remains under investigation.
