BIDDEFORD, Maine — A fire Friday morning forced closure of part or Route 111 in Biddeford for approximately 3.5 hours.
Route 111, also known as Alfred Street, reopened around 8 a.m. Friday. It was closed to traffic in both directions near the intersection with Journey Walk Street.
The Biddeford Fire Department said the building that is ablaze is believed to house an automobile business. No one was there at the time, and there is no word on a cause.
Neighbors said the property owner lives out of town.
The state fire marshal’s office has been called to investigate.
Route 111 is a main road into Biddeford from Standish and Alfred.
