GLENBURN, Maine — A local man is facing multiple charges stemming from an altercation with his girlfriend Friday morning, according to police.

Bail for Brandon Cronk, 28, was set at $25,000 cash at his first court appearance in Bangor on Monday afternoon. He is facing charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, criminal restraint and obstructing the report of a crime.

The aggravated assault and domestic violence charges are felonies, Deputy Ryan Fitch of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said.

The alleged assault occurred early Friday morning, and the victim was able to contact police around 9 p.m. Friday, according to Fitch.

A couple of hours after the assault was reported, Cronk was arrested without incident and taken to Penobscot County Jail, Fitch said.

“The best way to explain it was it was a serious incident,” Fitch said.

According to court documents, Cronk and the woman had been dating for about a month, and shortly after it began, Cronk became “abusive and very controlling.”

In addition, Cronk repeatedly accused the victim of cheating on him, and the victim claimed Cronk broke her cellphone a week ago to prevent her from having contact with her family.

According to the documents, Cronk slapped the victim in the head while calling her a liar and a cheater. He apparently pushed and threw her into a wall, and choking was involved.

Fitch said the victim was not seriously injured.

Cronk’s bail conditions include not having contact with the victim, not going to her Finson Road residence, and abiding by an 8 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew.

If convicted of the Class B aggravated assault charge, Cronk faces up to 10 years in prison and five years on the Class C domestic violence criminal threatening charges.
