ORONO — President William Lucy and the Katahdin Area Council board of directors announced that R. Scott Harvey has agreed to join the Council as Scout executive.

Harvey currently serves as assistant scout executive at the Knot Trail Council in Framingham,

Massachusetts. He has held that position since 2005.

Harvey is an Eagle Scout and as a Scouting professional has served in multiple roles since 1990 including district executive, field director and director of finance and marketing. He also has substantial experience with Scouting camps and aquatics programs.

Harvey is a life-long Scout who is following in his father’s footsteps as a Scout executive. His vision, he said  is to create an environment that is volunteer driven, and professionally guided, with the goal of building collaborative efforts at every level of Katahdin Area Council, which is in line with the Council’s vision.

Harvey’s first official day as Scout executive of the Katahdin Area Council will be Ja. 2.

Harvey and his wife, Kirsten, have two daughters, Connie, who is attending St. Michael’s College in Vermont, and Cassandra, who started her sophomore year in high school this year. The Harvey’s will relocate to the Bangor area after the first of the year.

The Katahdin Area Council serves youth ages 7 to 21 years. The scenic six northern counties,

Aroostook, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo and Washington, of Maine comprise the Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, Inc. It contains 17,981 square miles, making it the largest council in land area east of the Mississippi, and the most eastern council in the contiguous 48 states. The council operates two camps — Katahdin Scout Reservation (Camp Roosevelt) located on Little Fitts Pond in East Eddington, and Maine High Adventure located on Grand Lake Matagamon in Baxter State Park. Camp Roosevelt is also the home to the largest log cabin dining hall east of the Mississippi that is available to rent for weddings, company picnics and various other functions. Maine High Adventure offers weeklong camping, hiking, canoeing experiences for Scouts age 14 and up.
