BUCKSPORT, Maine — There were two bids placed Wednesday to purchase the Bucksport Golf Club, a nine-hole course up for auction as part of an arbitration agreement between the owners, but neither bid came close to the lowest acceptable amount, one owner said.

“The auction was called off because there were no serious bidders,” said Wayne Hand, who purchased the Bucksport Golf Club in 1980. “The highest bid was $275,000, and that was about $300,000 off from what the lowest bid was supposed to be.”

The town assessed the land and buildings at $593,428. As of April, the personal property, which includes items such as the lawn mowers, was valued at $120,600.

The golf course has an 8,600-square foot club house with pro shop, snack bar, lounge, banquet room, kitchen and deck.

The auction of the 95-acre golf course, located at 397 Route 46, was administered by Keenan Auction Company, based in South Portland, and was part of an arbitration agreement dated April 23, 2014 from Hancock County Superior Court.

“The judge, in the decision, gave me the right of first refusal,” Hand said. “My ex[-wife] is pushing for the sale. There are no banks involved.”

He said after he and his ex-wife, Lynn Musetti, divorced about five years ago, they continued to be partners in the golf course. Now she wants to get out of the partnership. Musetti did not return a message left Wednesday seeking comment.

“I’m trying to keep it,” Hand said. “I’m trying, but I’m not having very good luck. I’ve been here 34 years, and I hope I can keep it.”

What will happen next is up to the arbitrator, Hand said.
