CARIBOU, Maine — Aroostook County is expected to get hit with fresh snow Wednesday night into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the weather service’s Caribou office, freezing rain and rain were expected to fall throughout the day and change over to snow by nightfall.

Up to 8 inches of snow is expected in most communities, according to the weather service.

Aroostook County, along with northern Somerset and Piscataquis counties, are under a winter weather advisory that is expected to last into Thursday, according to the weather service. Central Piscataquis, northern Penobscot and southeast Aroostook counties are also under the advisory, but those areas were only expected to be under it through Wednesday afternoon.

Up to 6 inches of fresh powder is possible in northern Piscataquis and Penobscot counties, while the Bangor area could see a couple inches of snow, according to the weather service.

A freezing rain advisory had been issued for western counties Wednesday morning, but that alert has been canceled.
