SACO, Maine — A local man will spend 42 months behind bars for his role in an attempted convenience store robbery earlier this year, according to police.

Mark Cassette, 27, who pled guilty on Dec. 9, was sentenced to eight years in prison with all but 42 months suspended, along with three years probation, according to Saco Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Holland.

Cassette will serve time for attempting to rob the Saco Bay Variety at knifepoint in February, according to Holland.

Cassette displayed a knife and demanded cash, but the store’s owner refused and reached for a piece of pipe under the counter, upon which Cassette fled.

Cassette fled to an Old Orchard Beach residence, where he held police at bay for 90 minutes before he was taken into custody.
