BANGOR, Maine — A home on Bowdoin Street was spared damage Thursday after a dryer caught fire, according to officials.
Bangor firefighters were called to the residence shortly before 1 p.m., according to Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Rick Cheverie.
Cheverie said a comforter was drying in the machine when it caught fire.
“When the dryer was turning, the comforter didn’t turn with the drum, so it stayed in one area and heated up the comforter,” he said.
Crews were able to get a line inside quickly and knock down the fire before it could spread, Cheverie said.
“Make sure you clean your vents,” Cheverie said, offering tips for dryer safety. “The hose that comes off in the back of the dryer can gather a lot of lint. You have a lot of heat and it can cause problems.”
No mutual aid was required.
