WARREN, Maine — A man serving a pair of life sentences for two 1988 murders in Bangor died Monday night of natural causes at the Maine State Prison.

Scott Fish of the Maine Department of Corrections confirmed in a Tuesday statement the death of Edward Robinson Jr., 77.

There was no foul play in Robinson’s death, Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Tuesday.

State police and the chief medical examiner were notified, as is standard protocol, and both are reviewing Robinson’s death, Fish said.

Robinson was responsible for the 1988 shooting deaths of Robert Blanchard and Patricia Maguire at a Bangor trailer park, then known as Tozier’s Trailer Park, on the Finson Road, according to Bangor Daily News archives. Maguire was a former girlfriend of Robinson.

Robinson was sentenced to two life sentences in December 1990. Justice Eugene Beaulieu referred to the murders as an execution.

In January 2011, Robinson was transferred to a nursing home because of his unspecified medical condition, but after Blanchard’s son went public and criticized the release, the state moved Robinson back to the prison. The corrections department did not comment at the time about why he was transferred back to the prison.
