ATLANTA, Georgia — Birmingham-Southern College led from wire-to-wire, building a 44-34 halftime lead and hanging to beat the Bates College men’s basketball team 76-72 in the final day of the Emory Holiday Classic Tuesday.

Birmingham-Southern (7-4) received 14 points from three players, including reserve John Crain, who drained 4-of-5 three-point attempts. Alex Avery and Larry Thomas also scored 14 apiece, with Avery grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.

Junior Mike Boornazian scored a game- and season-high 25 points for Bates (7-2), making 7-of-13 shots from the floor, including 6-of-10 3-pointers, and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Senior captain Adam Philpott scored a season-high 13 points off the bench, and senior captain Graham Safford added 10 points, all of them scored in the second half, and a season-high nine assists.

York 66, Southern Maine 51

At Washington, sophomore Dalton Myers scored 14 points to lead the York (Pa.) College Spartans by the University of Southern Maine in the consolation game of the Catholic University Holiday Tournament.

Both teams are now 3-7.

Sophomore Zach Leal paced the Huskies with 11 points, adding a game-high five steals. Junior Mitch Loeman added 10 points and junior Sean Caddigan had nine.

Lehman 80, MMA 54

At New York, Lehman outscored Maine Maritime in a first-half surge en route to the win in the Eighth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic.

Jerrome Jones scored a game-high 18 points to lead Lehman, while grabbing five boards, two blocks, an assist, and a steal.

Nick Holt paced MMA (1-9) with 16 points, two rebounds and an assist while Tyler Thayer added 11 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist. Brian Goda added 10 points.

Husson 53, Hampden-Sydney 51

At Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday night, Trevon Butler’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Husson the win over Hampden-Sydney at the South Point Arena in the D3Hoops.com Classic.

Both teams are now 8-1.

Hampden-Sydney took a 51-47 lead on a pair of Mike Murray free throws with 2:54 left. Aaron Willis then found Butler for a three to get Husson within one with 2:23 left.

Neither team could convert for over two minutes, and Butler’s first 3-point attempt went out off a Hampden-Sydney player and the Eagles called timeout with 12 seconds left to draw up Butler’s winning play.

Butler finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Raheem Anderson added 19 points and five rebounds.Greg Lewis had 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Hampden-Sydney.

The Eagles held a 39-34 edge in rebounding.

Women’s Basketball

Fontbonne 55, MMA 45

At Nashville, Tennessee, Fontbonne went on a seven-point run to extend a 43-37 lead late in the second half to beat Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.

Lauren Willis led the Griffins (5-5) with 14 points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist.

Jillian Perron finished with a career-high 14 points to lead the Mariners (3-7), while adding three rebounds, two assists and a block. Mary Badeen recorded 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block. Kristi Willey pulled in a game-high nine rebounds, while adding six points, two assists and two steals.

MIT 84, Bates 71

At Brunswick, MIT shot 64 percent from the field en route to the win over the Bates in the opening game of the 2014 Coastal Maine Classic hosted by Bowdoin College.

Sabrina Drammis led the way for MIT (5-5) with 28 points and 12 rebounds.

Bates (6-4) was paced by 19 points from senior captain Molly Brown while sophomore Allie Coppola had her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. First-year forward Nina Davenport, a recent transfer to Bates, scored 14 points in her collegiate debut.

RPI 54, Southern Maine 52

At Westfield, Massachusetts, Ashley Clough netted 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute by the University of Southern Maine in the consolation final of the Westfield State Holiday Tournament at the Woodward Center.

Southern Maine (6-5) was led by 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists from Ramonas, and Megan Pelletier added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

RPI is now 4-5.

St. Vincent 78, MMA 23

At Nashville, Tennessee, Monday night, St. Vincent outscored Maine Maritime Academy 31-2 in the first eight minutes of the second half to roll to the victory.

Taylor Mathers led the Bearcats with a game-high 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Hannah Carroll chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Kristi Willey led the Mariners of Castine with six points and a block. Charlette Bradley and Mary Badeen pulled down 11 rebounds each, while adding four points apiece. The Mariners outrebounded the Bearcats 46-45.

Bowdoin 90, Clark 29

At Brunswick, Bowdoin never trailed in a win over Clark University on the opening day of the Coastal Maine Classic.

Every active player scored in the game for Bowdoin 98-2), who were led by Sara Binkhorst’s 17 points. Shannon Brady scored 12 points and grabbed five boards while Emily Campbell added 10 points off the bench.

Sam O’Gara led Clark (3-6) with 10 points while Brooke Brennan added seven.
