BLUE HILL, Maine — Power was restored Wednesday evening to all but about a dozen of the more than 7,500 Emera Maine customers in Hancock County who lost it late that afternoon when an insulator broke, a company official said.
Emera spokeswoman Susan Faloon said that the break occurred on a transformer at the Surry transfer station. She said the reason for the failure was not immediately known.
Customers in Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Penobscot, Sedgwick and Surry were affected by the outage, as well as customers in the eastern Hancock County town of Winter Harbor, according to Emera. In all, 7,574 meters had lost their connection to the grid.
As of 9:30 p.m., only two outages were left in Milbridge and only 11 customers remained without electrical service in Eastport, according to the utility’s live outage and restoration map.
Meanwhile, Emera repair crews also were dealing with a smaller-scale outage affecting 110 customers in Steuben. That outage, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m., was the result of a motor vehicle accident, Faloon said.
