GRAY, Maine — While most of the state was under sunny skies Friday afternoon, snow squalls moving across central Maine made for brief whiteout conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

Squalls were expected for Somerset, Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Waldo, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford and Sagadahoc counties, according to the weather service.

Any snow was expected to move out of those areas by 2 p.m.

Cold weather also is expected to dip back into the state Friday night and into Saturday, resulting in wind chill advisories and warnings posted throughout the state.

A wind chill warning is in effect for Penobscot, Hancock, Washington and Piscataquis counties from 9 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday, with wind chill readings expected to dip as low as 29 degrees below zero.

Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, Androscoggin, Kennebec and Waldo counties are under a wind chill advisory from 9 p.m Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday.
