MILO, Maine — The state fire marshal’s office ruled the fire that destroyed a home in Milo on Wednesday night was accidental.
Sgt. Ken Grimes of the fire marshal’s office said Friday it appeared a log rolled out of a fireplace, subsequently igniting combustibles.
Grimes said it was unclear if the homeowner had insurance on the property. He added the fireplace did not have a protective screen in front.
“Be sure you have a protective screen to prevent ash from escaping,” Grimes said.
