RICHMOND, Maine — A quick response by firefighters from five towns prevented a Friday morning fire in a workshop at a home on Main Street in Richmond from spreading to the residential portion of the home.

Firefighters were called at about 8:20 a.m. to the home at 246 Main St.

“When I got there, there was heavy smoke in the back of the building and I could see fire through the windows,” Richmond Fire Chief Matt Roberge said. “The crews made a quick stop and limited it to the workshop area attached to the kitchen in the back of the house.”

A wall that abuts the kitchen was damaged by the blaze, and the kitchen itself was damaged by smoke, but the remainder of the house is intact, Roberge said.

The resident of the home “got out fine,” with no injuries, Roberge said. No firefighters were injured, and Roberge said there were no pets in the home.

The state fire marshal’s office was called to the scene, but Roberge said investigators have not been able to determine the cause of the fire.

Crews from Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Dresden and Litchfield aided Richmond firefighters.
