BREWER, Maine — A medical issue was the likely cause of a head-on collision on Wilson Street Monday afternoon, police said.
The low-speed collision involving two sport utility vehicles occurred shortly before 1 p.m. across the street from the Brewer Auditorium.
Brewer Deputy Chief Jason Moffitt said the woman who had the apparent medical issue was headed towards Bangor while the other motorist, headed towards Brewer’s business district, tried to avoid the collision but was unable to do so.
The names of the people involved weren’t available. Moffitt said that by witness accounts, the driver who had the medical issue apparently was slumped over her steering wheel.
“We have not even located her next of kin at this point,” he said. “We don’t know how severe her condition is.”
The driver of the westbound SUV and a passenger in the eastbound vehicle were taken from the scene by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
