ROCKLAND, Maine — A veteran detective is the new second in command for Rockland’s police department.
Chris Young has been appointed deputy chief of the department, Chief Bruce Boucher said Friday.
Young succeeds Wally Tower, who retired last month and is now overseeing security at the Knox County Regional Airport.
Young, who was hired in January 1996, has been with the Rockland department for 19 years. He has been a detective since 2001 and was promoted to detective sergeant in 2008.
He had previously worked as a deputy for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and as a reserve officer for Rockport.
The Rockland department has 18 full-time officers as well as a full-time parking enforcement officer and a part-time animal control officer. The department has an annual budget of nearly $2 million. The department responded to more than 10,000 calls last year which resulted in 1,053 arrests and summonses.
