POULTNEY, Vermont — Aaron Willis scored a team-high 22 points, including an important free throw with 50 seconds left, as Husson University held off Green Mountain College 104-99 in a North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday afternoon.
Willis’ free throw gave Husson a 100-96 lead. He also had four steals and four assists for Husson (15-3, 11-1 NAC) while Jacob Moore had 17 points and eight rebounds Raheem Anderson finished with 15 points, Eli Itkin scored 14 and Trevon Butler posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Mitch Worcester had 10 points.
Javier Lugris’ 25 points and 14 rebounds, Chris Strong’s 23 points and five assists and Cameron Anderson’s 20 points and 14 rebounds led Green Mountain (6-11, 6-6 NAC).
UMM 97, CMCC 84
At Machias, Ben Teer scored 24 points and Antwan Ruise added 21 to propel UMaine-Machias by Central Maine Community College of Auburn on Sunday.
Ruise also grabbed 12 rebounds and notched five assists. Floyd Higgins chipped in with 19 points for the Clippers, who had a five-point halftime lead.
Carrington Miller paced CMCC with 15 points, Xavier Colbert added 14 and Jeremy Suero netted 12.
Castleton 90, MMA 81
At Castleton, Vermont, the Spartans built a 13-point halftime lead and never trailed in earning a North Atlantic Conference victory over the Mariners on Saturday.
Chad Copeland paced a quintet of double-figure scorers with 20 points for Castleton State (10-8, 8-4 NAC). Rob Coloutti posted 18 points and Carnelius Green tallied 14.
Jason Hatch paced Maine Maritime Academy of Castine (2-17, 1-11 NAC), which also had five players in double figures. Zach Radcliffe tossed in 18 points, Tyler Thayer tallied 15, Nick Holt netted 12 and Tyler Gilson chipped in with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer 84, UMF 70
At New London, New Hampshire, Koang Thok came off the bench and scored a game-high 17 points Saturday to lift the Chargers to a North Atlantic Conference victory.
Peter Donato and Wol Majong popped in 14 points each for Colby-Sawyer (12-5, 10-2 NAC).
Nick Hilton paced the University of Maine-Farmington (4-14, 3-9 NAC) with 16 points, Pet Sumner scored 15 and Uriah Forest-Bulley chipped in with 13 points.
NEC 75, Thomas 73
At Henniker, New Hampshire, Dondre James made a layup with three seconds remaining, lifting the Pilgrims to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Terriers on Saturday.
Robin Wilson powered New England College (9-10, 6-6 NAC) with 30 points and Dezron Wilson scored 10 points.
Levi Barnes poured in a game-best 37 points on 12-for-15 shooting to propel Thomas College of Waterville. Owen Brown and Adam Carlsen contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.
Trinity 88, Colby 79
At Hartford, Connecticut, Jaquann Starks went 13-for-14 from the foul line en route to 25 points to carry the Bantams to a NESCAC win over the Mules on Saturday.
Ed Ogundeko and Shay Ajayi posted 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Trinity (16-5).
Ryan Jann led the way for Colby College of Waterville (11-9) with a game-best 27 points, including 10-for-11 foul shooting. Luke Westman provided 14 points and five assists.
Women’s Basketball
Husson 78, GMC 46
At Poultney, Vermont, Kelsea Bouchard came off the bench and scored 13 points in 13 minutes, Kylie Richards had 11 points and Chandler Guerrette contributed 10 points as Husson completed a sweep of its weekend trip to Vermont.
Husson (12-6, 10-2 NAC) received six or more points from eight players and took advantage of 30 turnovers, scored 27 points off the miscues.
Allison Wadsworth’s game-high 17 points paced Green Mountain (0-17, 0-12 NAC). Torie Cowell had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Keelin Banks had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Castleton 52, MMA 35
At Castleton, Vermont, Lindsay Sabo scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Spartans’ North Atlantic Conference win over the Mariners on Saturday.
Meghan O’Sullivan had 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds and Jade Desroches contributed 12 points and five assists for Castleton State (15-4, 11-1 NAC).
Maine Maritime Academy of Castine (8-11, 5-7 NAC) received a game-high 17 points from Mary Badeen (8 rebounds, 3 steals). Jillian Perron added eight points and seven rebounds.
UMF 61, Colby-Sawyer 57
At New London, New Hampshire, Meghan Smith’s double-double (14 points, 15 rebounds) helped the University of Maine-Farmington prevail on Saturday.
Lindsay Ranquist scored 11 points for the Beavers (8-11, 7-5 North Atlantic Conference).
Lexi Iannone led Colby-Sawyer (11-8, 8-4 NAC) with 15 points.
NEC 67, Thomas 34
At Henniker, New Hampshire, Kayla Lawlor’s 16-point effort spearheaded the Pilgrims past the Terriers in NAC action on Saturday.
Allison Beck came up with 11 points and Utshana Durham contributed 10 for New England College (15-4, 9-3 NAC).
Katie McAllister led a balanced effort for Thomas College of Waterville (2-17, 1-11 NAC) with eight points and Sarah Pepin added seven points.
Colby 60, Trinity 42
At Waterville on Saturday, Carylanne Wolfington was the lone double-figure scorer in the Mules’ NESCAC victory over the Bantams.
Mia Diplock, Brooke Chandor and Haley Driscoll scored nine points apiece for Colby (13-5, 3-3 NESCAC). MaryKate Caverly provided five assists.
Mackenzie Griffin sparked Trinity (6-12, 1-5 NESCAC) with nine points and Taylor Higgins had eight.
Women’s Hockey
Maine 3, New Hampshire 0
At Durham, New Hampshire, Brooke Stacey’s power-play goal 6:54 into the third period snapped a scoreless tie and sparked the Black Bears to a Hockey East victory on Saturday.
Victoria Hummel and Hailey Browne provided assists on the Stacey goal, while Browne provided an insurance goal off a Jennifer More assist for UMaine (10-12-3, 9-5-1 HE). Audra Richards added an empty-net goal courtesy of a Brittney Huneke pass and Meghann Treacy piled up 36 saves to earn the shutout for the Black Bears.
Vilma Vaattovaara made 19 saves for New Hampshire (7-18-1, 4-10 HE).
