WATERVILLE, Maine —- Brooke Chandor had game-highs of 25 points and nine rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals to lift the Colby College women’s basketball team to a 72-65 non-conference win over University of Southern Maine on Tuesday.

Colby moved to 14-6 overall and has doubled last year’s win total when the Mules finished 7-17. Southern Maine dropped to 9-11 overall.

Chandor was 9-for-14 from the field and 7-for-11 from 3-point range. Chandor missed her collegiate-high in scoring by one point.

Mia Diplock added 11 points, five assists, and hit three of her five 3-point shots. Carylanne Wolfington scored nine points, while Caitlyn Nolan, Haley Driscoll, and MaryKate Caverly all had eight points. Diplock and Caverly both had five assists.

Southern Maine’s Megan Pelletier had a team-high 19 points and scored her 1,000th career point early in the second half on a driving layup. Rebecca Knight finished with 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting and Ella Ramonas added 13 points.

The Huskies led 6-0 just three minutes into the game and still led 10-3 with 15:29 to play. The Mules, though, settled down and Chandor had 17 first-half points to help Colby take a 41-24 lead at the break.

The Mules were 9-for-16 (56.3 percent) from 3-point range in the first half. Colby struggled in the second half with 22.7 percent shooting and USM was able to get the lead down to six points at 66-60 with 39 seconds to play. Caverly, who is shooting 92 percent from the foul line this year, was 6-for-6 in the final 51 seconds.

UNE 60, WIT 42

At Biddeford, the University of New England outscored the Wentworth Institute of Technology 22-9 over the final 8:40 to pull away for the Commonwealth Coast Conference victory.

Senior forward Kelly Coleman led all scorers with 17 points to pace the Nor’easters (16-4, 12-1 CCC). She was 7 of 12 from the floor and grabbed a game-best nine rebounds. Her 17 points moved her up two spots on UNE’s career scoring list, where she now stands seventh with 1,339 points.

Sophomore center Alicia Brown contributed 15 points and seven rebounds for UNE. She made 7 of 10 shots from the floor. Junior point guard Meghan Gribbin chipped in nine points and eight assists.

For Wentworth (5-15, 3-10), first-year guard Riselly Deoleo posted team highs with 16 points, eight boards, five steals and four assists.

Bates 77, UMaine-Farmington 64

At Lewiston, Mike Boornazian scored 26 points as Bates won its fourth straight for a 10-0 record at home.

Bates (15-4) shot 53.7 percent from the field, their second-highest percentage of the season, while holding UMF to 38.2 percent shooting. Bates has won 15 games for the first time since the 2007-08 season, when the Bobcats finished 17-8.

The visiting Beavers dropped to 4-15 with their seventh consecutive setback.

Boornazian recorded his season high on 9-of-16 shooting from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point territory. He added six rebounds and four assists.

Marcus Delpeche added 16 points, shooting 6-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line, to go with a team-high seven rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Adam Philpott added 10 points. Twelve Bobcats played, with 11 of them receiving nine or more minutes of playing time.

Uriah Forest-Bulley led UMF with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Nick Hilton scored 14 points with six boards. Ryan Camire pitched in with 11 points and Eric Berry handed out five assists.

Bowdoin 79, Plymouth St. 66

At Plymouth,N.H., Bowdoin rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit to stun Plymouth State.

The Polar Bears, who outscored the Panthers by an astounding 47-19 margin in the second half, improve to 14-6. Plymouth State falls to 7-13 on the year with the loss.

Lucas Hausman continued his red hot play, scoring a game-high 32 points for the Polar Bears, setting a new career high for the second time in the last three games. John Swords recorded a double-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. Matt Palecki scored 13 points and corralled eight rebounds for Bowdoin.

Brian Boulay and Ernie Johnson sparked Plymouth in the opening half, scoring 10 points apiece. The Panthers scored six three-pointers in the opening period, extending their lead to as many as 19 points and taking a 15-point edge, 47-32, into the locker room.

Colby 76, USM 64

At Waterville, Sam Willson had a game-high 22 points and Ryan Jann had a fine all-around game for Colby in its win over the University of Southern Maine.

Colby moved to 12-9 overall, while the Huskies dropped to 4-16.

Willson was 9-for-15 from the field and 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Jann also was 4-for-6 on his 3-point attempts on the way to 16 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Connor O’Neil finished with 13 points for the Mules, who led 35-33 at halftime. Luke Westman, who ranks first in the country in field goal percentage, was 4-for-4 for 10 points and nine rebounds. Westman is shooting 76.1 percent (105-for-138) from the field. John Gallego was a spark off the bench for Colby with seven points, four assists, and three steals.

Zach Leal was 7-for-11 from the field for 16 points and added seven rebounds and three assists for the Huskies. Fred Knight added 12 points, eight boards, and two blocked shots. Jacob Littlefield finished with 10 points.
