BANGOR, Maine — A 38-year-old Bangor man was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but one year suspended, after pleading guilty Thursday charges stemming from a domestic violence case that occurred in August last year.
Penobscot County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy said the charges to which Carl McCullough II pleaded guilty were one count each of burglary, aggravated criminal mischief, theft by unauthorized taking and criminal mischief.
“It was a pretty scary event for the victim in this case. She was very scared,” Almy said.
“They were living together and police told him to leave [and he came back late at night, smashed up her house, stole her truck [and] crashed that into the fire station,” Almy said.
In addition to his prison sentence, McCullough was ordered to undergo three years of probation, Almy said.
Probation conditions include no contact with his victim, participation in a batterers’ intervention program and substance abuse counseling, and payment of $1,650 in restitution, he said.
McCullough also is prohibited from consuming and possessing alcohol and illegal drugs and is subject to search and testing for substance use and is prohibited from possessing dangerous weapons, Almy said.
Carl McCullough II was indicted by a Penobscot County grand jury on the four charges in November.
