GRAY, Maine — Winter-weary Mainers tired of snow and shoveling can expect more of the same Wednesday night and into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the weather service’s Gray forecast center, a low pressure system approaching from the Great Lakes could bring up to 8 inches of snow to parts of the state.

The system is expected to arrive late Wednesday and last into the day on Thursday, according to the weather service. The weather service’s Caribou forecast center stated significant snowfall is possible on Thursday in Down East Maine, with lesser amounts in coastal Hancock and southern Penobscot counties.

A winter storm watch has been issued for Cumberland, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Waldo, Sagadahoc, Lincoln and Knox counties, from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon.
