BANGOR, Maine — Twenty of the state’s top senior high school basketball players received the honor Wednesday of being selected as semifinalists for Maine’s most prestigious high school basketball award.
Peter Murray, boys basketball coach at Dexter Regional High School, who also serves as the president of the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches, unveiled the 10 boys and girls Mr. and Miss Basketball semifinalists, along with the McDonald’s Senior All-Star teams, prior to the Class B semifinals at the Cross Insurance Center.
Senior All-Star weekend is scheduled for March 13-14 in Bangor, with an awards banquet on March 13 at the Cross Insurance Center and a full day of all-star games at Husson University the following day.
Two Bangor High School standouts are among the 10 Miss Basketball semifinalists, with Ram seniors Mary Butler, who will play at Brown University next season, and Cordelia Stewart among the five Eastern Maine nominees.
Madison McVicar, who will play for coach Richard Barron at the University of Maine next fall, is also a semifinalist, along with Presque Isle’s Hannah Graham, Mackenzie Worcester of Washburn, Maria Valente of Gray-New Gloucester, Ashley Storey of Greeley, Ashley Briggs of Scarborough and Thornton Academy’s Victoria Lux and Kaitlyn McCrum.
Messalonskee of Oakland’s Nick Mayo, who will play at Eastern Kentucky next year, headlines the boys’ semifinalists, along with Kyle Bouchard of Houlton, Eric Hoogterp of Old Town, Kyle Johnson of Calais, Liam Stokes of Cony, Bonny Eagle’s Ben Mallory, Ian Mileikis and Lew Jensen of Edward Little and Jack Simonds of Falmouth.
