PORTLAND, Maine — A former Brunswick man has been sentenced to 200 months in prison for his part in a crack cocaine ring operated out of a Portland hotel.
Garry Collins, 46, was sentenced Feb. 26 in U.S. District Court to 200 months in prison — nearly 17 years — followed by eight years of supervised release.
According court documents, prosecutors were prepared to present evidence including surveillance camera footage and recorded telephone calls that showed that Collins and others packaged crack cocaine on June 3, 2013, for distribution at the hotel.
The next day, Portland police officers arrested Collins with just less than 60 grams of crack cocaine, Assistant U.S. Attorney Darcie N. McElwee wrote in a release.
Collins was subject to a more severe sentence based on prior convictions for drug trafficking and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, McElwee wrote.
The case was investigated by the Portland Police Department, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
