BELFAST, Maine — A 23-year-old man from Stockton Springs who pleaded guilty last week to using Facebook to threaten to kill his ex-girlfriend and her child will spend 18 months in prison for the crime.
Tyler J. Damon was arrested last August and charged with domestic violence terrorizing, violating a protective order and harassment by telephone or electronic device, and he admitted to those charges in Waldo County Superior Court.
Damon’s ex-girlfriend had received a protective order from Belfast District Court on July 25 that prohibited Damon from contacting her or her three children, according to a previous BDN article.
About a week after she received the order, the woman contacted police to say that she had been receiving threatening Facebook messages from Damon. In one of the messages included in his court file, Damon indicated he was angry she was seeing another man. He warned her that both of them should sleep with one eye open and that he would kill them.
He then also threatened to kill one of her children while she watched and warned her that no police or court papers would stop him.
“Jail time is going to be worth it baby,” Damon wrote.
When police contacted him about the messages, he initially denied having sent them and said that someone else had his password and could have sent them.
The criminal complaint initially was filed in Knox County, because the woman worked in Rockport and received the messages in that town.
