BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 61-year-old Brunswick man was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with a head injury Monday afternoon following a dramatic two-car crash on Pleasant Street, also known as Route 1.
Antonio D’Alessio was headed west in a 1996 Chrysler Sebring at about 3 p.m. when his car crossed into oncoming travel and struck a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Steven Gustafson, 59, of Brunswick, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said.
D’Alessio’s car continued on and struck a pole in front of the Raven’s Roost bar.
Steven Gustafson was uninjured, but his passenger, 84-year-old Chrystal Gustafson, also of Brunswick, was taken to Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick for treatment of chest pain.
Brunswick firefighters extricated D’Alessio from his car and Brunswick rescue workers took him to Maine Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available on Tuesday.
All three were wearing safety belts, and air bags deployed in both cars, Hagan said.
Both vehicles were significantly damaged.
The crash remains under investigation.
Pleasant Street remained open but traffic was “significantly backed up,” Hagan said.
