Twin City Foods has recalled more frozen spinach products because of potential listeria contamination.
However, officials with the Stanwood, Washington, firm said Tuesday that it wasn’t the primary source of the potentially tainted spinach. It received the products from Coastal Green Vegetable Co. LLC of Oxnard, California.
Coastal Green, which issued its own recall, also supplied frozen spinach to Amy’s Kitchen Inc. of Petaluma, California, which pulled nearly 74,000 cases of products because of the potential contamination.
Twin City issued a voluntary recall Tuesday for several frozen spinach products, including packages of Wild Harvest spinach sold in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maine and Delaware.
The company also recalled Wild Harvest Organic Cut Leaf Spinach in 16-ounce frozen packages sold in Washington state, 16-ounce packages of Cadia Organic Cut Spinach sold only in California; packages of Meijer Organics Chopped Spinach sold in Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin; and 12-ounce packages of Wegmans Organic Just Picked Spinach sold in New York and Pennsylvania.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with any of the recalls.
Listeria bacteria can cause serious illness in children, the elderly, people with compromised immune systems and pregnant women. Consumers who have the recalled product should contact the retail store where it was purchased.
