HOULTON, Maine — State police Tuesday arrested a Palermo man in connection with the theft of five firearms from a home in Eagle Lake.
An Eagle Lake homeowner contacted the Maine State Police at about noon Tuesday after discovering that a building he owned had been broken into, according to a press release issued Tuesday evening by Trooper Chuck Michaud.
Trooper Corey Hafford and the homeowner determined that the five of his firearms had been stolen at some point within the last two weeks, Michaud reported.
The investigation led to the Waldo County town of Palermo, where 22-year-old Anthony Hawkins was arrested by troopers from that area with the assistance of deputies from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
All five firearms — 4 handguns and an AK-47 — were recovered, according to Michaud.
Hawkins was charged with burglary, theft, possession of a firearm by a felon, and violation of probation, and taken to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.
