WASHINGTON — Members of the Maine delegation are urging the Federal Emergency Management Agency consider the state’s request to add Washington County to the snow-related disaster declared in March in three other counties.

A disaster declaration would trigger the award of federal funding to aid cleanup and repair done by a harsh winter that dumped record snowfall on many communities.

Washington County in particular was hit hardest, with Eastport breaking a snowfall record that stood for more than a century.

Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins, along with Rep. Bruce Poliquin, have sent a letter urging FEMA to provide assistance to Washington County.

FEMA is providing assistance to Cumberland, York and Androscoggin counties.
