BRUNSWICK, Maine — This year’s Pulitzer Prize recipients include a Bowdoin College alumnus and a former Bowdoin professor.
Anthony Doerr, class of 1995, won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for his novel “All The Light We Cannot See.” The book follows the stories of a blind French girl and a Hitler Youth in Germany and occupied France during World War II.
David Kertzer, who was a professor in Bowdoin’s sociology and anthropology department from 1973-1992, and is now chairman of anthropology at Brown University in Rhode Island, won the Pulitzer Prize for biography-autobiography for “The Pope and Mussolini: The Secret History of Pius XI and the Rise of Fascism in Europe.”
Kertzer still spends his summers in Harpswell, according to a news release from Bowdoin.
