PORTLAND, Maine — A chilly night at Hadlock Field couldn’t cool off the Sea Dogs’ bats, as Portland took game two of its four game series over the Trenton Thunder by a final score of 10-3.

Six days after Mike McCarthy (2-1) picked up the win in a 10-1 Sea Dogs victory at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, he threw his best outing of the season. McCarthy pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while walking one and striking out two.

McCarthy has now won two straight games has thrown 11 consecutive scoreless innings.

A night after it was shut out, the Portland offense faced a tough test as they had to face Yankees’ top prospect Luis Severino (1-1), but they were able to put up six runs (three earned) on eight hits in five-plus innings.

The Sea Dogs got on the board in the second when Blake Tekotte (double, triple, RBI) drilled a triple over the head of center fielder Jake Cave. Jonathan Roof followed with an RBI single to give Portland the early 1-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs added another run in the fourth on an RBI double by Tekotte that scored Tim Roberson. Every player in the Portland lineup reached base in the contest, while eight of nine starters posted at least one hit.

Portland batted around in the sixth, scoring six runs on four hits and sending 10 men to the plate. The Sea Dogs also took advantage of defensive miscues by Trenton, scoring seven unearned runs in the game on five Trenton errors.
