Dexter, Va Jo Wa set to open
Dexter Municipal Golf Course and Va Jo Wa Golf Course in Island Falls have announced that they will open for the season this week.
Dexter is slated to open Wednesday at 9 a.m. with all tees and greens in play for walkers only. Saturday is the first day for riding carts, weather permitting.
Va Jo Wa will celebrate the start of its 50th year when it opens on Saturday. The front 9 will be in play for walkers only.
Cavs’ Love to miss at least two weeks
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love is expected to miss at least two weeks because of a separated shoulder and will not be available for the team’s second-round playoff series against either the Chicago Bulls or Milwaukee Bucks.
Love was injured in Sunday’s game against the Boston Celtics.
With 5:22 remaining in the first quarter, Love got tangled up with Boston forward Kelly Olynyk chasing a long rebound. Olynyk’s right arm locked around Love’s left arm and a foul was called on Olynyk.
Love clutched his shoulder and ran off the court and straight to the locker room at the opposite corner of the court.
“I thought it was a bush-league play,” Love said after the game. “I have no doubt in my mind that he did it on purpose.”
The accusation caught Olynyk by surprise.
“That’s ridiculous,” Olynyk told the Boston Herald Sunday night. “I would never intentionally hurt Kevin or anyone else. He locked my arm up, I locked up his as we were fighting for a loose ball. You lock up arms all the time in this league.”
Olynyk did say he tried to contact Love but was unsuccessful.
Orioles-White Sox game postponed
Monday’s scheduled game between the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox in Baltimore has been postponed because of violence in the area. A makeup date has not yet been set.
The Orioles said the decision was made after consultation with the Baltimore City Police Department after seven police officers were injured on Monday as rioters threw bricks, broke windows, looted businesses and burned patrol cars in violent protests following the funeral of a black man who died after he was injured in police custody.
The riots broke out just a few blocks from the site of the funeral of 25-year-old Freddie Gray in northwest Baltimore and then spread through other parts of the city in the most violent demonstrations since looting in Ferguson, Missouri, last year.
Redskins pick up option on QB Griffin
Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan announced Monday the team will pick up quarterback Robert Griffin III’s fifth-year option for the 2016 season.
Griffin is set to make nearly $16 million next year. He has been named the starter heading into 2015 training camp.
McCloughan wouldn’t say Griffin is the long-term answer at quarterback for the Redskins. The Redskins have the fifth pick in this week’s draft and McCloughan told The Washington Post that picking up the 2016 option “does not affect our draft process.” He said the team would use its first-round pick on the best available player and that a quarterback could be considered.
Griffin threw for 1,694 yards and four touchdowns with six interceptions last season.

A pair of Nikes — the earliest NBA-worn shoes by Jordan — sold for $71,553 at auction over the weekend.
The buyer, according to the auction house, wants to remain anonymous, according to ESPN.
Saturday’s price tag is the second-highest price paid for game-worn Jordan shoes. The shoes he wore in the 1997 NBA Finals “flu game” sold for $104,765 in 2013.
Saltalamacchia designated for assignment by Marlins
The Miami Marlins designated for assignment catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia on Monday.
In the second year of a three-year, $21 million contract, Saltalamacchia had been a major disappointment. He was hitting .069 with one homer and one RBI in 32 at-bats this season and had hit .209 since signing his deal.
He recently had been replaced in the lineup by rookie J.T. Realmuto.
Saltalamacchia went on paternity leave Friday, and the Marlins had called up catcher Jhonatan Solano from Triple-A New Orleans.
Saltalamacchia, 30, is owed $7 million this season and $8 million next season.
