ACTON, Maine — A man is dead after shooting himself following a brief police pursuit in York County on Wednesday, according to Sheriff William King.
A deputy had attempted to stop the vehicle around 3:30 p.m. on West Shore Road for an apparent equipment violation, according to King.
Upon the deputy activating his lights and siren, the vehicle fled, and stopped a short time later, according to King.
The man, whose name was not disclosed, shot himself as the deputy approached the car, King said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate the incident.
