LINCOLN, Maine — A 24-year-old woman began serving a six-month jail sentence on Monday as part of a plea bargain after police found 66 bags of heroin and a handgun at her Enfield Road home in March, officials said Thursday.
Andrea Carlow of Lincoln pleaded guilty to charges of possession of heroin, oxycodone and hydrocodone in exchange for prosecutors dropping a charge of Class B aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs during her appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center, Assistant District Attorney Marianne Lynch said.
Lynch complimented Lincoln police for “really putting the pieces together quickly” in arresting Carlow on March 20.
“They were very quick to recognize [the unfolding case] and cooperate with other agencies,” Lynch said Thursday.
The investigation began when Lincoln police Officer Brandi Alton received a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident in front of Hannaford Supermarket at about 3:30 p.m. March 20. A woman reported that a dirty gray Chevy S-10 pickup truck had gently rear-ended her Chevy Cobalt and driven off as she sat waiting to turn left into the shopping center, police have said.
State police Troopers Andrew Pierson and Christopher Foxworthy, who were nearby when the call came in, then found a truck matching the description in a driveway near Carlow’s home on Enfield Road, police have said.
While there, interviews and the observance of “suspicious behavior” led investigators to temporarily detain several people who were at Carlow’s residence or trying to leave it. Police arrested Carlow after they found heroin plus four hydrocodone, 10 oxycodone and two Suboxone pills in her possession.
As part of the plea bargain, Carlow also agreed to the criminal forfeiture of a Taurus .38-caliber revolver and $652 in cash in exchange for a sentence of three years with all but six months suspended, two years probation and a $400 fine, Lynch said.
Charges against five other suspects arrested during the investigation are pending, officials said.
