PORTLAND, Maine — The median price of single-family homes in Maine continued to climb in April, up 5.3 percent from one year ago, to $178,000, according to monthly statistics from the Maine Association of Realtors.

The rise came as the total volume of home sales continued to increase in April but at the slowest monthly pace so far this year. A total 1,032 homes changed hands last month, compared with 1,015 one year earlier.

The home sales trend in Maine comes as existing homes sales rose a more robust 6.5 percent nationwide, with the median sales price rising 10 percent, to $221,200, compared with one year ago.
Across the Northeast, home sales rose 1.6 percent while the median sales price rose about 3.6 percent, to $253,200.
Marie Flaherty, president of the Maine Association of Realtors, signaled in a news release that the market is becoming favorable to sellers, who often are receiving multiple offers from potential buyers.
