BELFAST, Maine — Police say a Belfast man was charged three times in 24 hours with violating his bail conditions from a prior charge of domestic violence assault.
The third time he was charged, Bradley J. Beeton, 28, tried to call the alleged victim from Waldo County Jail, where he was taken after the second time he was charged.
Beeton was arrested in January and charged with assaulting the woman, and his bail conditions stipulated he not contact her, according to a report from the Belfast Police Department. Those conditions later were amended to allow some contact, but Beeton is still required to keep a physical distance from her, Officer Mike Rolerson said Sunday.
At 2 p.m. Friday, the woman called police to say he came to her house and was making threats, police said. When an officer arrived, Beeton couldn’t be found, but the charge of violation bail conditions was written anyway. A couple of hours later, someone at the house called back to say Beeton had returned. Three officers went to the residence and arrested Beeton, who was “relatively cooperative,” Rolerson said.
At that time, he was taken into custody. Then, Saturday morning, Beeton allegedly called the woman from jail.
Rolerson said Beeton will remain in police custody until he sees a judge, at which time bail could be set.
