BANGOR — The Bangor Historical Society’s Thomas A. Hill House Museum opened for the season on June 2. Opening day activities included tours of the museum and the season’s first Brown Bag Lunch session.
“It’s going to be an exciting, fun-filled season,” said Melissa Gerety, BHS executive director. “We’re increasing our programming, visibility and collaborations with the Greater Bangor community and looking forward to sharing Bangor’s history with our neighbors and friends.”
The free Brown Bag lunch seminars begin at noon Tuesdays at the Thomas A. Hill House, 159 Union St.
Brown Bag Lunch topics will include the Penobscot Expedition, genealogy research and the infamous Brady Gang in Bangor.
The first guided walking tour of the season, sponsored by Eaton Peabody, will be Bangor and the Great Fire of 1911 at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 6. The tour will depart from the Hill House. That evening, a guided walking tour of Mount Hope Cemetery will begins at 6 p.m. Mount Hope tours will meet at the cemetery superintendent’s office on State Street.
The historical society offers four walking tours on a rotating basis during the summer season.Walking Tours will be held 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturdays. Tours are $10 with tickets available in advance at the BHS website or in person on tour days.
