BELFAST, Maine — A local woman whom police said became unglued last year while waiting in a credit union’s drive-through line was fined and will temporarily lose her driver’s license in connection with the incident.

Deanna Lenfest, 36, had her 3-year-old child with her in the car in February 2014, according to a previously published BDN report. She was waiting for the Downeast Credit Union to open for the day when she got upset because she had to wait too long in line, police said then, adding that Lenfest was waiting to get money to buy diapers.

Lenfest got out of her car, walked up to the teller’s window and began to yell at the teller, police said, then returned to her car, honked the horn repeatedly and screamed loudly and continuously.

She also went to the locked front door of the credit union and pounded on it, scaring the bank workers inside, police said. When Belfast Police Officer Eric Kelley arrived, Lenfest did not calm down. Video recorded by Kelley’s cruiser camera appears to show Lenfest trying to hit him with her Chevrolet Cavalier, causing him to leap out of the way. She struck the cruiser before driving away from the credit union, and Kelley pursued her through town.

Lenfest was found guilty last week at Belfast District Court of disorderly conduct, criminal threatening and driving to endanger. She will pay fines totaling $775 and will have her license suspended for 30 days.
