BANGOR, Maine — An Orono man charged in connection with the stabbing of his mother’s boyfriend two years ago pleaded no contest Friday to one felony crime in exchange for the state dropping two other charges.
Dorian Christian Sky Guerin, 22, also known as Dorian Archer, entered a no-contest plea to one count of elevated aggravated assault in a Penobscot Judicial Center courtroom. The state agreed to drop an attempted murder charge and a second elevated aggravated assault charge.
Guerin’s plea results in a finding of guilt. The state recommended he serve 25 years in prison with all but 15 years suspended, according to Penobscot County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy. The deal also avoids a trial.
Superior Court Justice Ann Murray accepted the deal. Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 23.
On the afternoon of Dec. 8, 2014, Guerin and his mother’s boyfriend got into a fight at 87 Park St. in Orono. During that fight, Guerin and the victim fell down a flight of stairs, and Guerin proceeded to stab the victim with a knife from the kitchen.
Guerin told police after his arrest that he attacked the victim because he thought the victim was going to attack him.
Almy said the victim reported counting 80 stab wounds, though past court documents have reported “at least 30” stab wounds, primarily to the head, neck and abdomen.
Doctors had to remove part of the victim’s skull to repair damage the knife caused to his brain. The attack left the victim permanently blind and with serious neurological damage.
Almy outlined the witnesses he would have called had the case gone to trial, and what testimony they would have provided, including testimony of a police officer and other residents of the building who witnessed portions of the lengthy stabbing incident.
Guerin’s mother was in court Friday and brought a suit coat for her son to wear during proceedings. She asked courtroom officials whether she could hug him, but that was not allowed.
