CHESTERVILLE, Maine — A local man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a pursuit early Monday that landed him in the hospital.

Dillian Burnham, 23, had been stopped for speeding by Franklin County sheriff’s deputy Andrew Morgan on the Ridge Road around 2 a.m. when the deputy determined Burnham may have been intoxicated, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols.

A field sobriety test verified the deputy’s suspicion, and when Morgan went to arrest Burnham, he resisted and fled back into his vehicle and took off, Nichols said.

Morgan followed in pursuit, eventually losing sight of Burnham’s vehicle, and the deputy alerted police from neighboring agencies Livermore Falls, Wilton, Jay and state troopers to keep an eye out for the car.

Livermore Falls officer Vernon Stevens spotted the car in that town around 2:30 a.m., and Burnham continued to flee through that town and into Jay, at which point Stevens terminated the chase, according to Nichols.

Police eventually found the car crashed on Borough Road back in Chesterville, and Burnham had to be extricated from the vehicle, the sheriff said.

He was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and charged with drunk driving, refusing to submit to arrest, driving to endanger, violating conditions of release and eluding a police officer.
