Alternative program

BANGOR — Acadia Hospital has created an alternative program for children and adolescents in kindergarten through grade 12 who have difficulties or challenges at home, school or participating in community activities because of diagnosed mental health problems.

The intensive program reduces individual barriers and assists children so they may have more positive experiences at home, in school and in the community.

“We have offered this program for the past few summers and have been amazed by the participation levels and positive feedback we get from both the children and their parents. We help develop skills in a fun way,” said Acadia Hospital Administrator of Pediatric Services Stephanie N. Bernier in a press release.

Group sessions with direct instruction and application focus on family life, anger management, health and wellness, life skills, social skills and occupational-physical activity.

The Summer Treatment Program is scheduled for 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 22 through Aug. 28, at Acadia Hospital. To schedule an appointment or for information, call 973-6048. Most insurance programs will cover the program.
