BOWIE, Maryland — The Bowie Baysox scored six runs in the second inning and held on for an 8-7 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in Double-A action on Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium.
Portland scored five runs on five hits in the ninth inning, but Andrew Triggs fanned Oscar Tejeda to end the game.
Bowie’s Ozzie Martinez highlighted the big second inning with a grand slam off losing pitcher Heri Quevedo (0-2). Former Red Sox infielder Brandon Snyder led off the second with a homer and Garabez Rosa had an RBI double.
Quevedo allowed seven runs on seven hits over 2 ⅓ innings.
Bowie’s Dennis Torres (2-0) worked 3 ⅓ scoreless innings on two hits and two strikeouts to earn the win.Triggs earned his first save by recording the final three outs.
The Sea Dogs scored five times off Kenn Kasparek in the ninth. Marco Hernandez tripled home Cole Sturgeon, but scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 8-4. Jantzen Witte added a two-run homer and Jonathan Roof delivered an infield RBI single.
Tejeda, who represented the go-ahead run, took a called third strike to end the series opener.
Portland has lost all four games to Bowie this season and is 1-3 during a six-game road trip.
