Nick Huff grew up watching his father, Kris, race Pro Stock cars.
So he is doing his part to revive the class in his first full season leasing Unity Raceway from Ralph and Nancy Nason.
He will have the first race in a three-race Pro Stock series on Sunday afternoon when Unity hosts a 50-lap race to highlight a full card of racing.
Racing begins at 2:30 p.m.
“I’ve always loved that class, and I want to do my part to try to bring it back,” said Huff.
It will pay $800 to win; the fastest qualifier will earn $100, and the leader of every lap will earn $5.
He said he is hoping to attract 12 Pro Stocks.
“I’d be happy with that,” said Huff.
Unity also will have racing in the Outlaw Minis, Flyin’-4s and Teen Thunder classes, and there will bike races. There will be fireworks after the races.
Every track has racing this weekend with the exception of Hermon’s Speedway 95.
Spud Speedway in Caribou, Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford and Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough have full cards of racing on Friday night, and Wiscasset Speedway will go on Saturday night.
Winterport Dragway will race on Sunday morning and afternoon.
Oxford kicks off its race card at 6:30 p.m. with Spud and Beech Ridge each beginning at 7 p.m.
Wiscasset Speedway will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, and Winterport Dragway will begin its heat races at 9 a.m Sunday.
Spud Speedway usually races on Sunday afternoons, but the change to Friday night has left leasee John Albert with some work to do.
“When we turned the lights on, we had some dark spots,” said Albert. “We had to replace a lot of bulbs.”
He noted that Trombley Industries of Limestone was kind enough to put up two sets of construction lights to help brighten up the facility.
A 75-lap Northern Lights (four-cylinder) feature and a 50-lap Street Stock race will highlight the race card at Spud Speedway. Enduros and Pro Stocks also will race, and there will be fireworks.
