CONNOR TOWNSHIP, Maine — A 22-year-old Presque Isle man was injured Tuesday afternoon after he fell asleep while driving, according to Maine State Police.
Jacob Turner, who was southbound when the accident happened shortly before 3:30 p.m., told police that he was tired and fell asleep just before his 2000 Buick LeSabre drifted off U.S. Route 1 and struck a parked 2013 Honda CRV belonging to Ruth Collins, 62, of Presque Isle, Sgt. Chad Fuller said in a news release.
Collins’ vehicle, which was not occupied at the time, spun around and flipped up onto its side, where it came to a rest in a driveway, Fuller said.
Turner’s car continued to move, striking a utility pole, causing it to snap and pull down live electrical lines, the sergeant said. The vehicle went back across the road before coming to a stop in the ditch on the edge of a field, he said.
Turner was taken to Cary Medical Center in Caribou for treatment of minor injuries.
Trooper Adam Stoutamyer investigated the crash. He was assisted by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine Forest Service, Emera Maine and Caribou fire and emergency medical personnel.
