Warriors trade Lee to Celtics

The Golden State Warriors reached agreement Tuesday with the Boston Celtics on a trade that would send David Lee to the Celtics in exchange for veteran Gerald Wallace, according to an ESPN report.

Lee, a former All-Star, was a starter for the Warriors during his first four years with the team but saw limited action for the NBA champions in 2014-15. He played in 49 regular-season games and averaged 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds.

The trade will not be finalized until Thursday when the league moratorium on player moves ends.

The deal is a cost-savings move for the Warriors, who will be shedding Lee’s $15.4 million contract in 2015-16 in exchange for Wallace’s expiring $10 million contract.

The 32-year-old Wallace appeared in 32 games for the Celtics last season and averaged 1.1 points and 1.8 rebounds.

Duke’s Brown sustains career-ending fourth knee injury

Duke linebacker Kelby Brown, an All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection in 2013, suffered his fourth torn anterior cruciate ligament last week, ending his college football career.

Brown’s knee problems began in November 2010, when he tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee. He then tore the ACL in the same knee in February 2012 and missed the entire 2012 season.

He returned in 2013 and was good enough to earn first-team all-conference honors.

Then last August, Brown tore the ACL in his left knee and missed all of the 2014 season.

Brown was granted a sixth year of eligibility and was expected to be a major part of the Duke’s defense this coming season. He was projected to be an All-ACC selection in 2015.

But he sustained a fourth ACL tear last Tuesday, the second to his left knee. The school confirmed the latest injury will end Brown’s career.

Okafor made his professional debut in the Utah Jazz Summer League on Monday night and scored a game-high 20 points and added nine rebounds and two blocked shots for the Sixers.

A member of the Blue Devils’ national championship team as a freshman, Okafor was named first-team All-American after averaging 17.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game.

Blues sign Tarasenko for eight years, $60 million

The St. Louis Blues invested in Vladimir Tarasenko for the long term on Tuesday, signing the high-scoring forward to an eight-year, $60 million contract.

The 23-year-old Tarasenko becomes the team’s highest player with a salary cap hit of $7.5 million.

In a breakout season in 2014-15, Tarasekno finished 10th overall in the NHL in points with 73 and was fifth in goals with 37. He was named to play in the NHL All-Star Game in January and added six goals and seven points during the postseason.

In 179 career regular-season games spanning three seasons, Tarasenko has 66 goals and 135 points and has added 10 goals and 11 points in the playoffs.

Tarasenko was drafted in the first round by the Blues in 2010.
