Point guard Goran Dragic signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Miami Heat on Thursday.
“When we traded for Goran last season, we knew he was the type of player and person that we wanted to be part of our Heat culture,” Heat president Pat Riley said. “His pace, ability and vision for the game is the perfect complement to lead our team as we look to bring another championship to Miami. We are pleased he has re-signed and will wear the Heat uniform for years to come and make Miami his home.”
“It was an easy decision for me,” said Dragic, who came to Miami last season in a deal with the Phoenix Suns. “This organization wants to win a lot of championships.”
The Heat also reportedly reunited Dragic with a former Suns teammate on Thursday, signing guard Gerald Green to a one-year deal worth the NBA minimum $1.4 million. The 29-year-old averaged 11.9 points last season with the Suns.
In 2014-15, Dragic averaged 16.3 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 33.8 minutes while shooting 50.1 percent.
Duncan discount: 1 year, $5 million
Tim Duncan signed a one-year, $5 million deal with a player option for the 2016-17 with the San Antonio Spurs.
Duncan took a 50 percent pay cut to return to the Spurs. Duncan will turn 40 in April and spent his entire career in San Antonio, the franchise that drafted him first overall in the 1997 draft.
The Spurs re-signed Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard in addition to landing coveted free agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge to a four-year, max value contract.
Duncan, 39, averaged 13.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and two blocks per game last season for the Spurs.
Green signs $82M deal
Forward Draymond Green signed his five-year, $82 million deal to remain with the NBA champion Golden State Warriors on Thursday.
“This is home for me,” he said. “At no point did I feel I was ready to leave this organization.”
Green and the Warriors had reached agreement on the deal last week; the Warriors were determined not to let the restricted free agent leave.
Green, who replaced David Lee in the lineup last season and put up a triple-double in the NBA Finals, did a little bit of everything for the Warriors. He averaged 11.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
Hawks wrap up Splitter, Millsap, Holiday
The Atlanta Hawks completed a trade for center-forward Tiago Splitter on Thursday, re-signed All-Star Paul Millsap and signed free-agent guard Justin Holiday.
The 30-year-old Millsap, an unrestricted free agent, reached an agreement last week with the Hawks on a three-year, $58.9 million contract. The two-time All-Star played for Atlanta the past two seasons and helped the Hawks reach the Eastern Conference finals this year.
During the 2014-15 season, Millsap led the Hawks with averages of 16.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals while making a career-high 77 3-pointers.
The Hawks obtained Splitter last week from the San Antonio Spurs in a deal for the draft rights to Georgios Printezis and a future second-round pick.
In five seasons with the Spurs, Splitter averaged 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. He has two years and $16.8 million remaining on his contract.
The Hawks cleared roster space for Splitter by waiving forward Austin Daye. Atlanta also lost starting guard DeMarre Carroll to Toronto in free agency but acquired guard Tim Hardaway Jr. in a trade with New York.
Holiday spent the past season with the NBA champion Golden State Warriors, playing in 59 games and starting four. He averaged 4.3 points and 1.2 rebounds.
Lakers land Bass, Williams, Brown
The Los Angeles Lakers signed forward Brandon Bass, NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams and second-round draft pick Anthony Brown to multiyear contracts on Thursday.
The 28-year-old Williams averaged a career-best 15.5 points in 80 games for the Toronto Raptors off the bench last season. The 10-year veteran hit a career-high 152 3-pointers.
Williams spent seven seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers before signing with the Atlanta Hawks in 2012. He was traded to the Raptors last summer.
Bass is a 10-year veteran who played for the Boston Celtics the past four years. Last season, he averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Brown is a 6-foot-7 guard from Stanford who averaged 14.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season. In 144 career games for the Cardinal, he averaged 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
Blazers sign Kanter to offer sheet
The Portland Trail Blazers reportedly signed restricted free-agent center Enes Kanter to a four-year, $70 million offer sheet on Thursday.
The fourth year would be at the player’s option, Yahoo Sports reported.
Kanter, the No. 3 overall pick in 2011, averaged 18.7 points and 11 rebounds per game last season after being traded from the Utah Jazz to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder will have three days to match the offer once they receive it, and they are expected to make room to do so.
