ST. AGATHA, Maine — A tractor-trailer hauling logging equipment that proved too tall for the road it was traveling on pulled down wires and broke three utility poles along Route 162 Thursday afternoon, according to the Maine State Police.

The incident happened about 2:40 p.m. on Route 162, as Brad Boutot, 55, of Portage headed south in a 2002 Western Star tractor, towing a low-bed trailer and a John Deere delimber, Sgt. Josh Haines said in a news release.

“The machine was too tall for the low hanging wires and caught onto the wires, disrupting several hundred yards of phone and power cables and breaking off three poles,” Haines said.

The truck is owned by Mark Rafford Logging of Ashland and the incident remains under investigation by the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit for potential court action. The final determination will not be made until consulting with the permit office in Augusta Friday, Haines said.

Boutot was wearing his seatbelt and no one was injured, he said. Emera Maine crews had power restored to the area by early evening.

The incident was reported by Maine Game Warden Adrian Marquis. Trooper Dan Marquis investigated the crash with the assistance of Trooper Darryl Pelletier of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit.
